Where robotics can take you

Kasa Robotics Lab

Engineering. Robotics. Innovation. Community Impact.

Kasa Robotics Lab prepares young innovators to design, build, code, and test engineering solutions that address real challenges facing African communities. Through robotics, engineering design, teamwork, and innovation, learners become creators — not just consumers — of technology.

This page and its field resources are open to everyone. The full structured curriculum launches soon. A learner account will be optional and only needed to save progress or earn certificates.

Design & build

Prototype, iterate, and refine robots that solve real challenges — from grabbing arms to line-following rovers.

Team engineering

Divide roles between design, coding, and strategy — the way real engineering squads work.

Season challenges

Prepare for global-quality robotics competitions and Kasa's own Annual African Grand Challenge.

Why robotics matters

Robotics develops far more than technical skills. It teaches learners how to think critically, solve problems creatively, collaborate with others, and build solutions that improve their communities.

Students develop confidence while learning engineering, coding, AI, teamwork, communication, and leadership.

The learning journey

From first sketch to community impact — a hands-on cycle every learner moves through.

1. Learn

Explore engineering, coding, and robotics fundamentals.

2. Build

Turn ideas into physical prototypes with the team.

3. Test

Run experiments, measure results, learn from failure.

4. Improve

Iterate the design — every version is smarter than the last.

5. Compete

Take your solution into local, national, and continental competitions.

6. Showcase

Present your work to peers, families, mentors, and partners.

7. Create community impact

Deploy your solution to make a real difference where you live.

Skills you'll develop

A broad set of technical and human skills — because engineers need both.

2027 African Grand Challenge theme

Each year, Kasa Foundation announces a continental challenge inspired by real opportunities and needs across Africa. All Robotics Lab participants will design solutions aligned with that year’s theme.

Choose your challenge

Kasa’s competition model gives every kind of maker a way to shine — from posters and prototypes to AI and full robots. Every innovator has a place.

Innovation Poster Challenge

Communicate a research idea visually and convincingly.

Engineering Design Challenge

Follow the full design process from problem to prototype.

Maker Prototype Challenge

Build a working prototype with limited materials and time.

Coding Challenge

Solve algorithmic puzzles and build creative software projects.

Robotics Challenge

Design, build, program, and compete with a robot on the official game field using Kasa Robotics Lab standards inspired by internationally recognized robotics competitions, including FIRST.

AI for Good Challenge

Design responsible AI solutions that improve education, agriculture, healthcare, environmental sustainability, or community services across Africa.

Community Innovation Challenge

Design, implement, and measure a real solution that improves life in your school or community.

How projects are judged

Every project is celebrated for what makes it strong. Detailed rubrics will appear in the official handbook — here is what excellence looks like across the board.
